(Maximum) Laden weight
This is the weight of a vehicle including its load. Payload or maximum laden weight is the maximum weight of a laden van.
Box van
This is a van that is completely square and looks like it was mounted on top of the van’s chassis. Often referred to as Luton vans.
Load Space

Luton
A 3.5t box van with a body extending over the cab. They have a more flexible load space than a panel van – and are perfect for house moves.
Panel van
A Transit van or similar, with a panelled body like a car.
SLD – Side Loading Door
The sliding door on the side of most panel vans. It is useful for loading from the pavement, or where there is no room to open the back doors.

A hydraulic platform that unfolds from the rear of a van. It allows goods to be lifted down to the road level. Most common in Lutons.
Unladen weight
The weight of a van without passengers or cargo.
Wheelbase / Wheel base
The distance between the front and rear axles of a van.
- SWB – Short wheel base. A short van that is not much longer than a medium-sized car.

- XLWB – Extra-long wheel base. The longest van, such as a Mercedes Sprinter.
