Moving furniture without damage starts with the right vehicle. Sofas, wardrobes and tables are heavy and awkward, and few fit in a car. A van, by contrast, gives a flat floor, a wide opening and a covered load space. For practical van hire in Warrington, our Tilley Street depot runs a fleet of over seventy vans.
Why a Van Suits Moving Furniture
Most transit damage happens when a piece goes in at an angle. In a van, however, a sofa or wardrobe slides straight onto a flat floor. Wide rear doors let you keep heavy items upright. Also, built-in tie points let you strap everything down. Finally, the closed body keeps rain and road dirt off your furniture.
Choosing the Right Van Size
Size follows volume, not furniture type. For one or two pieces, a short wheelbase medium roof van usually has enough room. A room’s worth, on the other hand, suits a long wheelbase high roof van. Meanwhile, the extra long wheelbase van handles a whole house. Heavy oak or cast iron pieces are easiest with a Luton van with tail lift.
Protecting Furniture in Transit
First, part-dismantle what you sensibly can. Remove wardrobe doors and table legs, and bag the fixings. Next, wrap polished surfaces in blankets and pad the corners. Then load the heaviest pieces first, low and against the bulkhead. Stand mirrors and glass on edge between soft items. After that, strap each layer before adding the next.
The official GOV.UK load securing guidance explains the principles. Our own guide on how to load a hire van safely is also worth a read.
Planning Moves Around Cheshire
Our central depot suits runs across town or out to Lymm van hire and Stockton Heath van hire areas. Every van sits within 3.5 tonnes, so a car licence covers it. Before booking, measure doorways and stairs at both ends.
We open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 4pm. Most vans need no deposit. For help moving furniture without damage, call 01925 396 222 or use our contact us page.
